Work on the Eagle Begins

Thank you Kirk, Santi, and crew for giving up evenings and weekends in this effort. Following is my understanding of the efforts to save our beloved landmark.

Kirk and Santi began work on rescuing our eagle.  They first stabilized the wing that was ready to fall at any second.  They did this using fiberglass and it seems to be relatively solid now.

Once they dove into the effort, they realized it was much worse than we originally thought, if that is possible.  The interior of the ball itself was pretty well rotted through and hollow.  They dug out the pulp from within there and filled it with foam.  I couldn’t tell you what foam material was used but I’m sure Santi or Kirk would be glad to tell you.

Next steps are probably more fiberglass to stabilize other areas and to waterproof. Then comes some paint (or stain) and sealant and a whole lot of prayer.

Thank you again guys for this monumental effort (pun intended). And thanks also for finding the funds to get this done.
